About

The Good Food Shop is an independent delicatessen and store established in 1987. It is situated on Bishopthorpe road in York – a thriving community of amazing independent shops, cafes and restaurants serving the local community and beyond.

The deli is filled with an abundance of locally baked artisan breads, cheese, charcuterie, fresh salads, smoked salmon, pies, tarts, cakes, confectionary, coffee beans and much more. The shelves are filled with quality provisions imported from Italy, Spain, Mexico as well as many others to create amazing meals.

The deli prides itself on sourcing the finest local and international produce to create amazing meals for your family and friends, to shopping for everyday essentials to creating a bespoke hamper filled with an array of artisan produce to bring you food with provenance, integrity and flavour to your home and table.

In November 2020 we became the new owners of the Good Food Shop. We have lived in the Bishopthorpe Road area since 2003 and were already regular customers of the deli. During lockdown in 2020 we took a leap of faith, quit our jobs and decided to buy a local business.

The Good Food Shop was was originally situated on the corner of Scarcroft Road and Nunmill Street. In 2004 it moved to its current location of 20 Bishopthorpe Road. 20 Bishopthorpe road has been a shop since records began. Between 1881 and 1913 the shop was a grocers & provisions store [George Todd]. In the 1920s and 1930s the shop was believed to be a drapers [fabric shop] before becoming Quarner’s the sweet shop in the 1950s and 1960s. Since the 1980s there was Kaye’s the newsagent followed by Maynews prior to its conversion in 2004 into a delicatessen.

We look forward to running the Good Food Shop for many years to come.
